King's Lynn Marina and Waterways Trust- our first newsletter.

It is important to keep you informed of what the Trust is doing and so we will be trying to write at least every 6 months to keep you up to date.

We now have 2 Patrons, Sir Jeremy Bagge and Henry Bellingham MP. There are only 3 of us running the Trust, myself, Paul Kunes and Steve Belton and we all have jobs that take up a great deal of our time. We do need more people to be involved and so we will be looking to establish a committee in the new year. Interested? Give me a ring and let me know.

We are delighted with the progress that has been made so far. The concept of a 250 berth marina together with associated land based developments has now been officially adopted as part of the NORA programme by the new Borough Council King's Lynn & West Norfolk administration. We have been told that if a funding package can be assembled, the marina could be open by 2007. This is a huge step forward.

We are very aware that the issue of securing funding is the major hurdle before a marina can be built. The total cost of building the marina and sorting out the waterways through NORA is estimated to be £15.5 million and it is hoped that much of this will come from English Partnerships, the Borough Council, East of England Development Agency and many other agencies. The NORA project is costing a great deal of money and there will undoubtedly be further demands for money. The need for the Trust is therefore all the more apparent as we need to keep focussed on our aim and objectives of improving the economy of King's Lynn through the development of the marina. We must maintain the pressure to build a marina and to settle for nothing less.

We, the Trust, together with hopefully the Borough Council and possibly the Environment Agency, will be putting on another meeting of all interested parties sometime around February/March. I have been approached by many different organisations saying that they want to have an input into the plans for any marina. There is a wealth of knowledge out there which we must tap. Be assured you will all be invited to the event and we will want to hear from you.

I think that's all for now. If you have any questions then please feel free to ring us on 01553 770880.
